IMPORTANT NOTICE: Town Proceeds with Caution in Restoring Safe Services
IMPORTANT NOTICE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Town proceeds with caution in restoring safe services
STONEWALL, May 8, 2020 – On May 6th the Town of Stonewall Council reviewed its current list of facilities closures in the context of the Phase One roll out of the Restoring Safe Services Plan announced by the Province of Manitoba. Based on that review the Town Council has confirmed that the following facilities will remain closed to the public for now:
- Veterans Memorial Sports Complex (including the Ice Palace and Curling Club)
- Heritage Arts Centre
- Town Office
- Play Structures at Town Playgrounds
- Cooke Field Soccer Pitches
- Fines Field Baseball Facilities
- Quarry Park Picnic Shelter
The Quarry Park Campground remains closed to the public but restricted access will be allowed for seasonal campers over the next week. The Town understands that seasonal campers want to get in and clean up their sites in anticipation of the upcoming camping season. The washroom facilities and play structures at the campground remain closed for now.
"If all goes well, the campground will be open to seasonal campers by the May Long Weekend, but we will not be accepting reservations for transient campers at this time,” stated Mayor Clive Hinds.
The actions being taken by Council are intended to ensure the greatest success in stopping the spread of COVID-19. These are unprecedented times and the Town is committed to ensuring the safety of its residents and employees. To that end we would ask that Stonewall residents continue to follow the instructions of Manitoba Health and Health Canada in conducting their daily lives to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Stay home as much as possible, practice proper social distancing by keeping a distance of at least 2 metres from others, avoid all non-essential trips in your community, do not gather in groups. Go for walks or get regular exercise, perform frequent good hand hygiene, avoid touching your face, and regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces within your homes and workplaces.
The Town also supports the recommendation of Chief Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Roussin that there be no garage/yard sales held at this time.

Stonewall is a vibrant community, and by working together Council is confident we can reduce the health and safety risks for Town residents during these unprecedented times.
