Resident Information - Seniors Groups & Resources - Age Friendly

Led by the Seniors & Healthy Aging Secretariat, the Age-Friendly Manitoba Initiative supports seniors in leading active, socially engaged, independent lives that contribute to healthy aging. The Seniors and Healthy Aging Secretariat works with partners and local communities to create environments that value older adults and all members of the community.

The Age-Friendly Manitoba Initiative was announced in February 2008 at the Age-Friendly Communities Summit in Portage la Prairie.

Age Friendly's vision is to create communities that value and support the contributions of older people; celebrate diversity, refutes ageism and reduces inequities; and provides age-friendly environments and opportunities for healthy choices that enhance independence and quality of life. The goal of Age-Friendly Manitoba Initiative is simple: To make Manitoba the most age-friendly province in Canada.

In spring 2011, the new Age-Friendly Website was introduced. The Age-Friendly Manitoba Website is an online resource centre that will provide Age-Friendly Manitoba communities with information, discussion opportunities, resources, and will identify key persons to assist communities in becoming more Age-Friendly.
